Our Kentucky Derby Festival kick-off is coming soon! Thunder Over Louisville - the Derby Festival's Opening Ceremonies - is one of the more than 70 events produced by the Derby Festival in the spring. The 2009 Thunder Over Louisville, themed “Out Of This World,”, will be the 20th annual production. The show is sponsored by Caesars Indiana, E.ON U.S., Meijer and UPS. 

The Kentucky Derby may be its claim to fame, but the famous horse race isn't all Louisville has to offer. Nestled on the banks of the Ohio River, this Southern city has loads of small-town charm, a cosmopolitan riverfront district, a diverse art scene (thanks to the Kentucky Center for the Arts & an diverse group of artisans who call Louisville home). 

There is a rapidly growing foodie market with several Restaurant Rows to select from. There is something for everyone! 

Sports lovers should make a stop at the Louisville Slugger Museum. The Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory is one of the city's most popular attractions. Thrill-seekers can take a ride on one of the world's longest stand-up coasters at Kentucky Kingdom.  

History lovers can sip mint juleps on an Ohio river cruise aboard the Belle of Louisville, a National Historic Landmark! The Star of Louisville offers day / evening dinner cruises.  

Louisville's water front park & Belvedere offers well lit walking areas, playgrounds, & picnic areas for family enjoyment. There are bike rentals & Frisbee area, too!
